John Robert Fernandez, age 81, of Columbia, Maryland, died Thursday morning, October 11, 2018. Born April 5, 1937, in Hana, Hawaii, he was the son of the late John M. Fernandez, and Helen (Philips) Fernandez.
John grew up on Maui, Hawaii before joining the military in 1957. John proudly served in the United States Air Force for twenty years, retiring from military service in 1977. After retirement John continued his career in public service, working as a Department of Defense security contractor for over forty years. In his spare time he enjoyed watching his favorite teams, the San Francisco 49ers, Luton Town FC and Leeds United FC, reading, watching movies, and spending time with his family and friends.
John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Christine M. Fernandez; along with three children; Maxine Moore, and her Husband Michael, of Duluth, Georgia; Tanya Fernandez, of Hanover, Maryland, and Curtis Fernandez, and his Wife Heather, of Germantown, Maryland; and an extended family. John was a loving father, husband, and friend to everyone.
A gathering to visit with the family will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 PM, with Sharing of Memories at 6pm, on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Witzke Funeral Homes,Inc., 5555 Twin Knolls Road in Columbia, Maryland. Interment is to be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
