Jody was born on October 17, 1934 in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born to John E Wiens and Jo (Williams) Wiens. Although the family moved briefly to California during WWII, her family lived in Enid, Oklahoma for most of her childhood. Jody earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Phillips University in Enid, where she also met her husband who was stationed at the nearby Vance Air Force Base.
In 1955 she married her beloved husband Lt. Colonel William “Bill” Stanley Pachura from Sandoval, Illinois who passed 2002.
She was a homemaker during most of his Air Force career as they lived around the world. The family lived in places such as Japan, England, Germany, Kansas, North Dakota, Louisiana and Oklahoma. They had 4 children during his 26 year career. For a stressful year in 1969, while he was a fighter pilot in Vietnam, Jody cared for her four young children alone and worried about his returning. For several years, she taught kindergarten and even tried her hand at Real Estate.
After Bill"s retirement from the Air Force, they settled in Columbia, MD where he started a second career and they lived for 40 years. Jody and Bill were avid Bridge players and made many friends, and she continued to play after his death. She also loved visiting with the neighborhood children.
They are survived by their four children. David William and wife Becky (Berry) Pachura of Ellicott City, Paul John and his wife Sherry (Dyal) Pachura of Columbia, Mary Joesphine Vaerewyck, and Martha Jean Hull and her husband Scott also of Columbia. They are also survived by their 8 grandchildren Danny Pachura, Tom Pachura, Richard Vaerewyck, Joe Vaerewyck, Robert Vaerewyck, Shannon Hull, Erin Hull, and Andy Pachura. She also had a brand new great grandchild - Benjamin.
She is also survived by her brothers Clark and Clay Wiens, of Oklahoma and California respectively.
After Bill’s second retirement from Westinghouse as an engineer, they would travel to Florida for several weeks every winter, since she hated the cold in Maryland. After his death she traveled to Hawaii for an extended period of time each winter. She loved to travel and would make trips around the country as often as possible.
Funeral service will be on Saturday, Sept. 21 Funeral home atat Wi5555Twin tzke Knolls Road in Columbia Maryland. The viewing will be from 1 to 4pm. And the Funeral will begin at 4pm. This will be followed by a reception at Jody Pachura’s house. If you wish you may bring a side dish or dessert to share. Burial will be at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery. The family requests donations be made to taps.org in lieu of flowers. Jody was always grateful she was not Vietnam War widow.
