Jason is survived by his sons, Joseph Ohm and Eugene Ohm, his grandsons, Terance Ohm, Chase Ohm, Robinson Ohm, Wesley Ohm and Austin Ohm, his daughter-in-law Eun-Kyung An, as well as his sister Kyung Ja Yang. Jason is fondly remembered and loved by his extended family and the church community.
Jason was born on March 11, 1941, to Yo-seop Ohm and Sung-Hae Kim in colonial Korea. In 1959, he graduated from Seoul High School. He next attended the renowned Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea, where he was class president and Editor of the school newspaper. His college years were delayed by Korean military service and in 1965, he graduated from Yonsei.
In 1965, he immigrated to the United States and in 1966, he married Hyun-Sook Ohm. In 1967, he enrolled in a Masters Program at Fairleigh Dickinson University for Marine Biology and received his M.A. in 1969.
1968 brought the birth of their first-born son Joseph and Jason worked hard in the United States to support his brand new family. In 1973, the family returned to Korea where Jason was a Chief at the Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute. In 1974, Eugene was born and three months later the family returned to the States.
Jason’s return to America required more hard work and long daily commutes via cars, subways and ferries. Determined to provide a stable and better life for his kids, Jason worked late hours in the fine dining industry in Manhattan. Over the course of his life, Jason ventured into small businesses, first as a restauranteur in New York and, later in life, as the owner of a dry cleaning business in Los Angeles. When his mother passed away in 1994, he returned to Korea to be with his father. There, he began another business and volunteered for the Y’s Men’s Club, a non-profit Christian organization. When his father passed away in 1999, Jason published “Come With Me,” an anthology of prayers and sermons by his dad, Pastor Yo-seop Ohm.
Jason returned to the States in 2006 to spend time with his sons and grandsons.
In his adult life, Jason was ordained a Deacon in the First Methodist Church in New York in 1975. He was a Youth Group Leader throughout his life. He enjoyed playing golf, watching all sports, especially those involving Koreans. He also enjoyed travelling, fine art and classical music. Perhaps most of all, he enjoyed delicious food.
Funeral services for Jason will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the First Korean Presbyterian Church of Maryland at 8430 Glenmar Road, Ellicott City, MD. The viewing will be at 5 pm followed by the service at 6pm. A repast will be held at the church afterwards.
