Ilona Maria Tabajdy

Our sweet “Mama” (Ilona Maria Modly Tabajdy, February 17, 1930 - March 5, 2025 devoted wife of 54 years to Leslie Tabajdy, March 9, 1917 - November 26, 2009) passed away peacefully at age 95, in the arms and hearts of the family she loved. She fulfilled her young girl dream of coming to America from Hungary and giving her children (Maria Waters and Liz Harmon) and grandchildren (Stephanie Waters Thompson, Michelle Waters Freed, Ben Harmon, Katie Harmon Crabtree) and great grandchildren (10 total, ages 13-4) a chance to grow up here. She left Maria and Liz a long letter to be read upon her death - the last sentence was, “Don’t be sad, be happy. I loved my life because of you all!”. What a true legacy Mama and Papa left our family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Kittamaqundi Community Church (across from her home at Vantage House), 5410 Leaf Treader Way, Columbia, MD on Sunday, April 6 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Operation Smile. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
