Helen Kam How Young peacefully passed away at age 95 on October 14, 2023 in Montgomery County, Maryland. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on May 13, 1928. Helen was a Licensed Practical Nurse for 40 years at the Kapiolani Women’s and Children’s Hospital, located in Honolulu. When not working, Helen was an active volunteer with local religious and community programs. She was a long time member at her Catholic parish serving in the church choir, and also assisting with administrative tasks for the parish office. Helen volunteered at the Hawaii Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and the Hui O Na Pio Hawaiian cultural group at St. Louis High School in Honolulu. She was also an ardent community advocate for the cognitively/developmentally disabled special needs community. In 2015, she moved to Ellicott City, MD to live with family.
She is survived by sons Kevin, Bryant, Aaron, and Randy. Granddaughters are Kristen Haunani Johnson, Erika Pualani Hill, Rebecca Kanani Young (deceased) and Mathew Tyler Young. Helen has 4 great-grandsons.
Visitation will be held at the Witzke Funeral Home 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia, MD, on October 27, 2023, 5 pm to 8 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 4795 Ilchester Rd, Ellicott City, MD on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 12:30 pm.
