It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Hylan on December 14, 2024, at the age of 84. Dorothy was born on March 27, 1940, at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Manhattan, New York City, and she remained proud of her New York roots throughout her life.
Dorothy attended Bronx Community College before embarking on a remarkable career in the medical field. For over 50 years, she worked as a Laboratory Technician, dedicating much of her professional life to Jacobi Hospital and Einstein Hospital. Her colleagues valued her expertise and friendship, and she formed many lifelong connections during her tenure.
Dorothy had a passion for travel and cherished her visits to the beautiful beaches of North Carolina, which she often described as one of her favorite places. She was also an avid admirer of the Metropolitan Opera and found great joy in spending holidays and summer vacations surrounded by family.
Dorothy will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her sister Teresa Vaccaro, brother-in-law Joseph Vaccaro, nephew Dan Vaccaro, nieces Lauren Vaccaro and Meredith Dull, as well as 14 great-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Dorothy’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project at https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
A private family memorial service and celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at a later date. May her memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate to know her.
