Chad was an amazing man. He was a musician, mathematician, engineer, martial artist, and patriot. He was a loving father, devoted husband, loving son and brother, and a good friend.
Chad earned his Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, which he applied to both his professional work as a software engineer and to his music. Although classically trained in both piano and violin, Chad also enjoyed twelve bar blues on his several guitars, and loved playing his mandolin.
Chad served in the Air Force for nine years, and then continued to serve in his civilian work. He was most proud of his time spent in the Honor Guard; the experience changed him and fueled his patriotism.
Chad was also a martial artist. He started training as a teenager and then resumed as an adult in the Tang Su Do style. After earning his first degree black belt Chad began studying Wing Chun. The goal was for Chad to become a Wing Chun sifu (level ten), and while his health allowed he was able to reach the sixth level. In both schools Chad was known as “that guy” who wouldn’t quit and showed up the “youngsters” with his determination. For Chad, the martial arts schools were extended family, to be treated with respect.
When we first learned about Chad’s cancer he appeared strong physically and spiritually, and was vibrant. Throughout this journey we frequently referred to him as Superman because of the way he faced and worked through each new challenge – and there were many. Chad was a fierce advocate for himself doing constant research and doing everything in his power to strengthen himself in body, mind, and spirit. His spiritual meditation discipline was especially strong. Everyone who has shared this journey with us has been inspired by his intrepid determination.
Each step of the way, each time there was a set-back, Chad was surrounded by angels and blessings. The more difficult the times, the more blessings that came our way. By this and by Chad’s time here with us on Earth we know that God loves us.
We will spend the rest of our lives paying forward all the kindness that has been shown to Chad and our family.
