He was born to Maria Vasquez and Julio Avila, who he has now joined with in Heaven.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Delfina Avila; brother Tony Avila of Colton, CA; Sisters Celia, Julia, Yolanda Avila and Brothers, Julio, Humberto and Vicente Avila all of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico; six children, Thomas Avila, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, Christina Romero of Highland, CA, Rudolpho Guerrero, Diana Guerrero both of San Bernardino, CA, Mariann Rodriguez of Denver, CA and Jaime Guerrero of Alburquerque, NM; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by brothers Ralph and Pancho Avila; his sons Ernie Guerrero and Penguin Avila and daughter 'Sookie' Negrete.
He was a lifetime resident of San Bernardino, CA and retired after 40 years from the Santa Fe Railroad. He was a wise man that loved to share his stories of his life experiences with others. He was like a father to many friends and extended family members alike. He took great pride in his accomplishments and taught those around him all he knew about being successful in life with little, he was a master at utilizing all resources and El Chaparral, for family and friends.
In his younger days, when not working, he loved riding horses and participating in many local parades with his family. Although, he was very wise and successful man, he was also a very humble man. His legacy will forever be carried through all the lives he touched while he was with us. He will be truly missed by many but will forever remain in our hearts.
Viewing will be held at 12:00pm with a Chapel service at 12:30 pm both at Montecito Valley View Chapel, 3520 E. Washington Street, Colton, CA
