Steve never married, but had a close relationship with one of his best friends, Nicole McDuffie (nee Perkins) and became a father figure to her son, Mike Perkins, when Mike was 8 years old.
Steve worked for many years at the County of Riverside starting in the agricultural department in 1998 and moving to his position as Store Keeper for the district attorney’s office in 2001. He enjoyed the work and left behind many good friends when he retired in 2018.
Family and friends love Steve for his witty remarks, his ready smile, and that friendly (and sometimes mischievous) twinkle in his eyes. He always had a way of putting others at ease. He will be remembered for his love of reading, art, and all things entertainment. His friendships bonded over his love of all things geek and Pokémon Go were long lasting. Even though Steve suffered many rounds in his battles with cancer, he didn’t complain. He faced it all with a sense of humor and a spirit that thought of others first until the end.
Steve is survived by his parents, Jay and Judith Oliver of Moreno Valley; his sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Greg Allen, a nephew, Elias Allen, all of Highland, IL; and many extended family and friends.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.montecitomemorialparkandmortuary.com for the Oliver family.
