Robert Eugene Renz of Lake Arrowhead, CA passed away peacefully in his sleep in his home, while his wife Joan was sleeping on February 18, 2024.
He was born on Tuesday morning on December 31, 1929 in Los Angeles to Elmer and Mabel Renz. He was the youngest of four children.
He grew up in LA attending Washington High School, where he played football. He attended Compton Jr. College where he also played football. While attending Compton Jr. College he played in the Junior Rose Bowl.
He met the love of his life, Joan Ricketts, in their Music class while they were both attending Washington HS. Joan went home to tell her mother about “the cute blond boy” in her class. Her mom responded “Oh, Joan.” They began a 77 year lifetime together.
Bob and Joan were married on February 17, 1951 in Los Angeles. The day before he passed away they celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary giving Joan another sweet card.
Bob and Joan were the parents of five daughters Connie, Cheryl, Caren, Carol, and Christine.
They settled in West Covina where they raised their girls surrounded with all kinds of animals. Bob enjoyed helping his girls with all of their animals and their participation in 4H.
Bob had many interests, but he particularly loved football, and the USC Trojans where he attended many games. His girls grew up on Trojan Football. Bob was an avid race fan. He attended the Indy 500 for many years sitting in his Grandstand seats. He enjoyed all types of racing.
He also enjoyed playing golf, and boating with his family. He also spent many hours flying in his business plane, even taking his family on vacations in it.
He was one of the owners of the family business, Safeway Plumbing & Heating that his parents began. During that time he was involved with the National Home Builders Association being instrumental in creating the Youth Housing Opportunity Program with inner city students, which is a program that has been instituted nationwide.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Joan said he was a wonderful husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his sweet daughter Carol and his son-in-law Jeff Papple and his granddaughter Heather.
He is survived by his wife Joan, his daughters and husbands, 20 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held on March 2nd at 11:00 am at the LDS Ward Building at 1160 Golden Rule Lane, Lake Arrowhead.
A private burial will be held at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton.
