Raymond "Mon" Vasquez, 89 years old of San Bernardino, California, passed away peacefully in his sleep, with his wife and son at his side on March 27, 2015 at his home. He was born on August 30, 1925 in Colton, California where he grew up. He is preceeded death by his parents, Sotero and Manuela Vasquez. He is survived by his wife, Lillian and their children, Cheryl Vasquez, Michelle Vasquez and Michael Vasquez. Great grandson, Gabriel McElwee, sisters, Rachel Newman and Lupe Calderilla. Also, numerous nieces and nephews.
Raymond attended Colton High School, where he was involved in all the major sports programs. He tried to enlist in the Navy during WWII , but at first was turned away because of a slight heart murmur. He was told to abstain from sports for six months. He was later accepted into the Navy, where he served from 1944-1946. He was awarded 2 stars, and the Victory Medal. Upon his return home, he worked at the PFE, then San Bernardino City Parks Dept. where he became a Supervisor and retired in 1986. He met Lillian in 1946 and in 1948 they were married. They lived on 5th St., in San Bernardino for 12 years, and had a daughter, Cheryl and son, Michael, they moved 1962 to Terrace Rd., and their youngest daughter Michelle, was born. Raymond was a 67 year resident of San Bernardino.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015, 4-8 pm, and Funeral Service on Friday, April 10, 2015, both at Montecito Valley View Chapel, 3520 E. Washington St., Colton. Burial will follow at Hermosa Memoiral Garden, 900 N. Meridian Ave., Colton, California.
Raymond will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
