I want to say I'm so blessed and honored to be your daughter-in-law. You are such an amazing person and leave a great behind a great legacy. I can still hear your laugh and see your smile that everybody talks about. I want you to know that I will always look out for Paul Jr. as you asked me to.  You are truly loved and will truly be missed. Rest easy and pain-free and this is not goodbye but see you later.

Father you have always been my insperation. I know I havent been the best of a son. I just want you to know Im going to make you proud of me.  Because when times were hard,  You were there when I needed you the most, you never gave up on me,you went out of your way to give me a good life. I know now that I faught you for the dumbest reasons. I was a broken kid when you recieved me from my mom. You built me up and I tore myself down . I  remember when you told me , Look squirt, you keep tearing yourself down but I'm still going to build you up, so stop waisting your time. The more you deviate from life's  goals the harder It 's going to be when you decide to finally reach your goals. Know that a soft ass makes for a hard fall.True this Pops. To this day your still building me up. This is hard on me and I don't  mean to be selfish, it's hard on all your love ones, especially the baby of us all !!! I'm going to  say what everyone  already knows, YOU ARE A GREAT MAN! I want to thank you for being apart of one of the happiest days of my life. Also for being in your grandchildrens lives! love you and miss you much. GOD SPEED POPS

It is so hard to say goodbye to my friend, partner and most of all my a brother.   I found this poem, and after reading it, it so reminds me of Paul.  I must share....(I have change it a bit)
  
To My Partner
You did all that you could, the sickness took me, you stood.

My thoughts and prayers to Lt Benevente's family. I did not work with him long, but I do remember that his smile could light up the room. He was always nice and genuinely cared for other people. The world is a lesser place without him in it, and heaven gained another great man. 

Benny,
I will always remember that infectious laugh of yours, the wide grin from ear-to-ear. You and Dad (Stephan Seekins) shooting the breeze, the 4th of July’s we’d go to Edward Vincent Park while you two working then having our own fireworks afterward, the crazy stories you told me about you and Dad working together (The Vet’s Building, The Mayflower and patrol). 
After Dad passed away, I came to your home and you welcomed me in, not just into your home but into your family. You became my second dad, even to the end you were willing to come to me if I needed anything.
You know, Rosy, would say that you were always so happy to see me, it would bring you joy to talk about the ol’ IPD days and Seekins. I loved it too, as you were the only link I had here to Daddy. You gave me something very precious too, Dad’s cuffs. You said they belonged with me. It has Daddy’s badge number (1698) etched into it. It meant the world to me that you would give them up, when I know that you and Dad were so close. When you came to my wedding I was so elated. It was like Daddy was there! God I was so excited to see you!
In closing, all I can really say is I love you and thank you for being there for me.

My dear old man,
There are no word to express all the love and respect I have for you. I will miss you dearly. I will keep all the good and bad times we shared. It won't be the same every Sunday now. Even though you were a pain in the a** , I still looked forward to going over every week. I will remember all those jokes, all those times you would walk in tired from your long shifts at work, all the advice, the nags,  the laughs we had. You will always be my "Tina"! I know you are now resting and at peace and although it's tough on us now, we will meet again in heaven.  For now just watch over us and protect us just like how you did when you were here. Thank you for all you did not only for your family but for your country.

It was a pleasure knowing and working with you for 26 years.  I still can"t believe you are gone.  Everytime I walk down our hallway I see your face.  I will never forget all the memories we all shared with you.  Thanks for being such a great lieutenant and always getting what I needed from you to do my job.  You were the BEST I should say.  In honor of you and your devoted service we officially named our hallway the "BENAVENTE HALLWAY".  You deserve it and more.  May God have you in his glory!

It was a true blessing to be on your shift. You were a fine example of a leader. You were very warm and welcoming to us in green, and looked out for us all. I'll never forget all the times you were there for me, as my LT, and that father-figure, that always greeted me with a, "Hey kid".  There was numerous occasions in which you came to assist me with certain situations, and I am eternally grateful for every moment. You were the kind of man that went out of his way  for his troops and officers. Anytime we needed help, we never even had to ask you. You were already driving by checking on us, if not, chatting with us, lifting up morale. Despite whatever it was you were going through, you'd be out there, on traffic, backing us up. We always knew we had your support, in any situation. Not once did we have to even ASK you for help. You were already one step ahead, encouraging us and trying to think of ways to make things better. I only knew you, to be a man of your word. An unforgettable LT, leader, mentor, brother and friend. You fought the fight till the end, and proved yourself to be a true warrior. I'll never forget the laughs we shared, the wise words passed down, and how supportive you were of me, when I was crossing over to the blue from the green. Those are ALL memories I will NEVER forget of you, LT.  I'm a better person and officer now, having been blessed with your presence, over the years. You've been in my kid's prayers and mine for months now, and we will continue to lift up your family in prayer, as well. One of the last things you told me, when I had to switch shifts was, that you guys would miss me. Well LT, now we'll all miss you. You'll forever hold a piece in our hearts, day to day, and our memories as a department, when we're out on shift. We love you, LT. Godspeed. 

Paul, we’ve been friends for nearly 25 years, through ups and downs, you were always a steadfast friend and confidant. My heart was broken when I learned of your passing, not since I lost my mom and dad can I remember feeling such sorrow. I will miss seeing at work and having our private conversation about life, love, and work. You were a faithful husband, father, and friend. Your legacy will carry on through the lives of your friends and loved ones. May Jesus greet you in the kingdom of heaven and pour down his blessing on your family and friends, for we will need them to remain strong.

Paul Leo Benavente was a wonderful person with a biggest heart. He's was a loving husband, loving father and My magnificent friend and MY partner in crime and  wonderful friend to people. He has touch many people hearts.

But you know what YOU are going to see me graduate High School and College from up above .  The first day we met you. You picked us up and I was scared to ask if you smoked, you took us to Inglewood police department. Where you lit up so I said ,"hey do you smoke in your truck." and you responded "Yes." I said ,"But you have no cigarettes in here." he answered ,"I know I throw them out the window."so we lit up the cigarettes we asked you ,"What kind of cigarettes did you smoke." you said ,"Marlboro." and yet you were smoking smokeys(AKA brand of cigarette)  we started laughing after we found out that you lied just that you were a cheapskate....I love you. Until we meet again.

The in print I want to leave about my father and mentor is that he was a great man with responsibilities and hard worker I love u dearly and U saved my life from all the bad decisions I made and gave me a choice to correct them. Thank u for making me a better man to my family and my kids and I will keep trying to make u proud I love u Dad.
