He leaves his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Williams) Smith; his daughter Rhonda (Smith) Ahrens and her husband John Ahrens; his son Hewitt A. Smith III; his son Roger D. Smith and his wife Wendy Smith; his sister Roxanne (Smith) Hubbs; his grandchildren Jack and Sydney Ahrens; sister-in-law Donna (Williams) Cole; many nieces, a nephew.
Born in Colton, the son of Hewitt “Buzz” Smith I and Ysabel (Schain) Smith he was a lifelong resident of Colton.
In his early years, Bud played football & was the President of Future Farmers of America (FFA) for Colton High School. He enjoyed summers selling bait on Balboa Island as a child. After graduating from CHS he attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he met his wife Dorothy “Dot”. He was a lifelong member of the Colton Methodist Church and attended St. Paul’s Methodist Church in San Bernardino.
He was a 33rd degree Mason, Master of the Colton Lodge in 1972. He enjoyed Shriner activities as well serving with his dad, Buzz.
Fishing Crowley Lake in the Eastern Sierras, Salmon fishing in AK, and hunting were all his passion. In addition to serving as a Citizens Patrol Officer with the Colton Police Dept alongside Dot for many years after retiring from a career as a Parts Manager at Smith Diesel Sales and selling for Cummins Engine Company and Nalco Chemical Company.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Colton Police Dept can be made in Bud’s name.
