Gary Lee Howell

Gary was a 28 year California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation employee until his retirement in 2011.

He began his career as a truck driver for Cal PIA at California Institution for Men (CIM) in 1985. Gary was then appointed to Correctional Officer at CIM and was the ISU K9 Officer with K9 Rudy. They worked many searches both inside the institution and in local communities. When Gary was promoted, K9 Rudy was retired and lived his retirement life with the Howells. Gary promoted to Correctional Sergeant at Eagle Mountain CCF. He later started his Parole Agent career in the Costa Mesa Parole Unit, later promoting to Parole Agent II, Specialist in the Indio/Palm Springs Office. Gary finished his career at the Moreno Valley Parole Office as the Parole And Community Team (PACT) Agent.

Gary enjoyed his retirement by spending time with his family, riding motorcycles and trips to Arizona. Gary is survived by his wife, Joanne, son, Mark Nelson & family. Parents, Harold & Donna Howell, brother, Mike Howell & family, sister, Debbie Trunkey & family. Parent-in-laws, Wayne & Pat Spiva & family.

Gary is predeceased by his faithful partner K9 Rudy.
