Ozuna was born in 1969 in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. His mother, Martha, was very determined to make a better life for her family and in 1972 the family moved from Mexicali, BC to San Bernardino, CA. Martha set a great example for her children on the importance of hard work and dedication. He and his family were fortunate to have great neighbors, Bob and Dorothy. They were both retired from the U.S. Air Force and played a huge part in his family assimilating to the United States. They took Ozuna and his brother Sergio under their wing and taught them English, as well as introduced them to America's greatest pastime, baseball. Ozuna would always say how grateful he was to have them in his life.
Ozuna attended San Gorgonio High School, where he met and fell deeply in love with his high school sweetheart, Rose Bueno. They would later go on to marry and have two beautiful children, Joseph and Precious. In 1996, they purchased their first home in the city of Rialto and in 2006 the family moved to Highland. The Ozunas were known to host legendary parties at their homes, such as birthday parties, boxing events and Super Bowls. All of these gatherings were accompanied by great people, great food and of course Fidel’s great micheladas!
At these gatherings Ozuna was known to regularly call attention and make the informal announcement: “Ladies and gentlemen, party people in the house, bringing it live to you from the Inland Empire, this is your host DJ. O!” This was an homage to his mentor, colleague and friend, Fred Plimley. Plimley was Ozuna’s manager when he first started working for RTO Rents. Plimley was also a DJ and radio show host who had a strong influence on furthering Ozuna’s passion for deejaying and music.
Ozuna was not only a great friend to party with but a great friend to have in everyday life. He had a very compassionate soul and was there through the bad and good times. He would always go above and beyond for his family, friends and acquaintances. He gladly and openly shared his knowledge and resources to help others. Even though he was usually a very busy man, he would always find a way to make time for others.
Ozuna was a true go-getter. He had a great work ethic that started at a very young age. As a young child he would mow neighbor's lawns for money. Ozuna always strived to be the best. His eagerness to learn would lead to his success of being a manager at a very young age and district manager for years to come. Ozuna was the kind of manager to work side by side with his team and never hesitated to get his hands dirty. In his adult life he worked for various rent-to-own companies such as Rent-A-Center, Rent-A-Wheel and EZ Rims 4 Rent. Ozuna excelled in his career endeavors despite not having formal business training. He eventually left the rent-to-own business to become a realtor for the last four years of his life. He was proud to be given the chance to make a difference in many people's lives.
Ozuna had a deep love and appreciation for many genres of music, including but not limited to Hip-Hop, Freestyle, Mexican classics, Country and Rock n’ Roll. Some of Ozuna’s favorite artists were Vicente Fernandez, Juan Gabriel, Jenny Rivera, Run-D.M.C., Dr. Dre, Elvis, The Beatles, and Reba McEntire. He and Rose enjoyed attending concerts together, as well as with family and friends. In his early adulthood he deejayed parties with his friend Erick. Ozuna also loved to pop-lock and breakdance as a young adult. He was infamous among his family and friends for his head spins at family gatherings.
Ozuna also had a great fascination with electronics and all the newest gadgets. He would always find ways to make his life and home more streamlined and enjoyable. For example, he had a boombox/ghetto blaster stereo collection from the 1980’s that he wired together and hooked up to a bluetooth transmitter so that the wall of stereos would all play simultaneously.
He would regularly attend live sports games and matches with his family and friends. Watching sports was one of his favorite pastimes and was ultimately a source of bonding with those he loved. Ozuna was a die-hard boxing, Steelers, Dodgers, and Lakers fan.
He would jokingly say he was born in Lansing, Michigan in the 1950s, where his favorite basketball player, Erving “Magic” Johnson, was born in 1959.
Ozuna enjoyed traveling with his wife Rose to many countries, either by themselves or with family and friends. He was excited to learn about different cultures and especially the new food that came along with that. He and Rose were always on the hunt for great food, whether it be locally or abroad. They also loved to visit family in Mexicali for the unforgettable gatherings and celebrations. As long as they were together they were bound to have a good time!
Ozuna was preceded in death by both of his parents Fidel Osuna and Martha Ibarra. He is survived by his wife, Rose; his children, Joseph and Precious; his granddaughter, Amelia; his nephews, Michael and Anthony; his stepmom, Fina; his stepdad, Mario; his brothers and sisters, Sergio, Little Mario, Fidel, Gaby, Nando, Ceci and Faby; as well as his extended family and friends.
To Those I Love-
When I am gone, release me, let me go. You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears. Just be happy that we had so many years. I gave you my love, you can only guess, How much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, But now it’s time I traveled alone. So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must, Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It’s only for a while that we must part, So bless the memories within your heart. I won’t be far away, for life goes on, So if you need me, call, and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near. And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear All of my love around you, soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone, I’ll greet you with a smile, and say “Welcome Home.”
A visitation for Fidel will be held Friday, October 14, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Montecito Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3520 E Washington St, Colton, CA 92324.
