Emilia (Emy) L. Aragon passed away peacefully on November 7, 2022 in Murrieta, CA. She was 90 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Filbert J. Aragon (Phil), who passed in 2020.
Born Emiliana Carrios de Leon on February 7, 1932 in Cavinti, Laguna, Philippines, Emy was the daughter of Patricio and Marta Carrios de Leon. In her early teens, Emy and her family survived and overcame the tribulations of World War II in her homeland. As a devout Catholic, Emy attended catholic high school at Our Lady of Loreto College of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. Emy excelled in sports and was a tennis champion in high school.
Emy attended the prestigious Philippine Women’s University in Manila, where she excelled in swimming and received her Bachelor Degree in Physical Education.
After graduation, Emy met the love of her life, Filbert J. Aragon (Phil), who was stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. Emy and Phil married on March 3, 1957 and raised 4 “Air Force brats” while Phil served 20 years in the US Air Force.
Deployment had brought the family to San Bernardino, CA in the 1960s where Emy began a long career at Farmers Insurance Group that eventually lead to Emy becoming one of the first women Claims Adjusters for Farmers. The family settled in Rialto, CA in 1968 where Emy continued to balance her career and being a loving and caring homemaker. Emy was an amazing cook, an accomplished pianist, and enjoyed doing crafts. She loved tending to her garden, always envied with beautiful array of flowers and vegetables.
Emy retired from Farmers in 1995. She and Phil spent their first years of retirement in Big Bear, CA and then later settled in Aguanga, CA. They were blessed to enjoy many retirement years together, enjoying the RV life, camping, and traveling often to Harrah’s Casino destinations. Emy enjoyed playing the slots as she had a flair for “beating the odds” and loved treating family and friends to many complimentary rooms and buffets.
Emy will be remembered as a loving wife, beloved mother (Nanay), grandmother (Lola), and great-grandmother. Emy was devoted to her family and cherished the numerous family gatherings and celebrations. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought immense joy to her life, sharing so many precious moments with them. Emy was the matriarch of the family and will always be a true inspiration and role model to her family and to countless friends. Emy lived an extraordinary life and will be deeply missed.
Emy is survived by her daughter Arlene (Dennis) Sherreitt of Carlsbad, CA; son Steven (DeVawne) Aragon of La Mesa, CA; and son Allen (Elizabeth) Aragon of Highland, CA. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Jacob, Alana, Jeffrey, Victoria, Michael and Allyse, and five great-grandkids, Margo, Maizy, Tatum, Julian, and Bailey. Emy is also survived by her sisters Yolanda de Leon Dorman of Fairfield, CA and Martha de Leon Marfori of Santa Maria, CA, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Phil, Emy was preceded in death by her son Glenn Aragon of Rialto, CA, brother (Kuya) Leonides C. de Leon (Leo) and sister (Ate) Leonila L. Villatuya (Lily), both of the Philippines.
A church and graveside service will be held at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton, CA on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 beginning at 9:00am. A reception for Emy will follow, 11am-3pm at East Highlands Ranch Clubhouse, 7136 Club View Dr., Highland, CA.
