Dolores was the oldest of five children. She grew up in Onawa, Iowa. Later in life, she met Wayne Hackett, and in 1945 they started their lives together. They had the first two of their three children, Donald in 1946 and Mitchell in 1947. In 1948 the moved their family to California, where they became long time residents of San Bernardino County. When they first arrived, they moved to Colton, California and had the last of their three sons, Noel in 1951. From there they moved to San Bernardino where they lived out the rest of their lives.
Dolores worked a variety of jobs, from selling Stanley Cleaning Products, Avon, to selling women's designer suits. From there she went on to work for Lou Millers. Dolores decided to retire in 1965 to stay at home and become a housewife and finish raising her three children. When her husband became ill, she cared for him through his final days. She became widowed in 1972 when he lost his battle to cancer. When her children had grown and left home, she started her own cleaning business. Dolores spent her later years helping raise four of her granddaughters, quilting, painting ceramics, sewing for friends and family and gardening.
Dolores is survived in life by her three sons, Donald of San Bernardino, Mitchell of San Diego, and Noel of San Bernardino; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Dolores is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Hackett, her parents Richard and Zella Gierman, and two brothers, Robert and Richard Gierman.
Our Mother and Grandmother will live on in our hearts forever. We love you and miss you. Please watch over us as you spread your wings and fly.
A Graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Montecito Memorial Park at 10:30 AM in the Olive Section.
