Catherine Palmer, 91 of Rialto, California went home to be with our Lord, surrounded by family after suffering from a long illness.
Catherine was born on October 4, 1932 to Mary Lee Alsbrook and Quila Robinson, in Fort Worth, Texas. She had three siblings, Clarissa Richardson, John Quincy Robinson, and James Lee. A brother who died as an infant.
She attended I.M. Terrell High School in Fort Worth. Texas.
Catherine met her first love and only love, George Bundage Palmer, as a young child. She grew up living with George and sleeping in his baby crib. They both married at a very young age.
George joined the Marine Corps, they were stationed all over the United States. From this union, Catherine and George were blessed with Ten wonderful children, that brought joy to their lives. Katherine, George Jr., Dennis, Douglas, Patricia, Davey, Phyllis, Sylvia, Marc, and Art.
Mom had kids on the West coast, on the East coast, mid-section and the South.
While station in Quantico, VA, Catherine and George would love going on Sunday drives. They would gather all the children up and put them in the station wagon to drive out in the country where all the kids would get out with their brown paper bags to pick pears, peaches, apples, plums, you name it. Mom would go home and make jars of jam and preserves. While stationed in Quantico, Catherine found a love for pottery, she enjoyed making ceramics. If you had came to any of her houses you would of found ceramics all over.
Mom loved going to the Marine Corps Ball every year. We would watch them dress and leave, we couldn’t go. But we sure stayed up for that piece of cake. The military was good for parents because they help them to discipline their kids. All ten kids graduated from High School, no one smoked, drank, did drugs or went to jail. They all walked a straight line.
Catherine held several jobs, one of them was working at Patton State Hospital as a mental health worker. She always came home with a story to tell. She also held jibs as a cashier, school monitor, and nurse assistant. But her overall job was being a wife and mother, where you would find her cooking, cleaning, plaiting the girls’ hair or shaving off the boys hair, when we were younger.
One of Catherine’s hobbies was decorating for Christmas. She would start early November, putting out her train sets, houses, activity scenes, Christmas trees, lights and snow, roller coasters, and ferris wheels. She decorated for years and would invite everyone she knew over. Another was collecting dolls and figurines. She had dolls from all over the world. Her favorite hobby was gardening. Mom stayed out in the yard so much she’d swear that the trees and flowers were talking to her. She loved singing and dancing. Mom was the life of the party. She also got a joy of watching her son, Art, perform.
Catherine loved the role as Momacat, she loved her Grandkids and Great Grand, she always said, holding a baby brought her joy, she loved babies.
Catherine believed in family and family ties. She had no favoritism in her children; she treated them all the same.
Mom had no problems meeting people or talking to people. She had a very outgoing personality.
Catherine believed in the Bible and loved the Lord. She grew up in church and sang in the choir at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. She instill the Love of God in her children
Catherine was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in San Bernardino, California. She attended New Hop for over twenty-four years. She was a member of the Mission “Naomi Circle”, a faithful member. It broke her heart when COVID came and she couldn’t continue going to church or to her Mission meetings.
One saying Mom use to always say was: “we all got to go one day”. “We didn’t come her to stay”.
Preceding her in death were her husband, George Palmer, Sr., brother, John Quincy Robinson, sons, Davey Palmer, Art Palmer, and Grandson, Jonathan Brown.
Left to cherish her memories are her children: Katherine Lewis (Ron), George Palmer (Rehnay), Dennis Palmer, Douglas Palmer (Jojo), Patricia Kendall (Dave), Phyllis Palmer-Mason (Kpehe), Sylvia Palmer, Marc Palmer, sister, Clarissa Thomas (93), 24 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grands, 2 Great, Great Grands, and a host of other relatives and friends.
