Cassandra was born in Texas in 1952, and started life with her loving grandmother, Odessa Branch, who raised her in Waxahachie, Texas. Cassandra often shared stories about her childhood and the love she received from Odessa, which molded her into the strong woman she came to be. She gave her life to the Lord at the age of 8 years old and never turned away from Him. The Lord was her shining light through all the ups and downs that life brought her. Anyone that she encountered could count on her spreading the good news about the Lord. She later attended school and completed a course to become an evangelist. She would always say the Lord will never leave you or forsake you, He will direct your path. He loves you no matter what you have done, and you should surrender your life to Him. God is so good.
Cassandra always helped anyone in need, in any way that she could. This included making one meal a day for the homeless, giving out clothing, blankets, pots, and any money she could spare. She would always say whatever the Lord placed on her heart to help someone she was going to try her best to deliver it.
She completed school to become a licensed x-ray technician and spent over 20 years working for orthopedic surgeons before retiring. She especially enjoyed working with youth patients and helping them heal and get better. In 1998 she started a reselling business, selling several types of merchandise at flea markets and other events. It was a wonderful way for her to connect with and meet people, and she genuinely enjoyed it.
Cooking may have been her biggest passion. She started a catering business which lasted over 40 years. Her specialties were cakes, pies, mac & cheese, collard greens, baked beans, cornbread dressing, chicken, turkey, and spaghetti. She was extremely busy with food orders during the holidays and enjoyed every minute of cooking. If you ever had the chance to taste her food, you were truly blessed to have that experience.
Cassandra is blessed with and survived by 4 children, Byron Butler, Ednesha Davis, Tramon Thomas (Mayra Thomas), and Shawniece Carter. She has 4 grandchildren Dresden Butler, Renee Ruelas, Rien Swain, and Cruz Thomas. Lastly, she had an abundance of loved ones that she considered family, ranging from brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces, and godchildren. She touched so many lives, and we will all miss her tremendously.
