Bettye was baptized at St Joseph Catholic church in Macon, Georgia as a young child. Both her parents passed before she was six years old.
Her grandparents raised her and her siblings until their grandfather passed. Bettye’s aunts, the late Louise Johnson Stinson and the late Lillian “Kissy” Johnson Reynolds, then became her guardians until she was a young adult.
Bettye attended High School in Chicago, IL and later met and married the late Porter H Hall II. To this union, five children were born. The late Pauline Dunlap Williams, Porter H Hall III(Lydia) of Pomona, CA, Joan Ruedelstein of Lakewood, CA, Phillip H Hall (Fabiana) of Fontana, CA and Maria Daniels of Moreno Valley, CA.
Bettye received a certificate in nursing and worked at Jackson Park hospital in Chicago, IL.
Porter and Bettye were married for 16yrs until his passing in 1971. Bettye later met and married the late Eddie Chambers and moved the family to California where her youngest child Cicely Chambers (Vincent) was born.
Bettye and Eddie started a family business which lasted for ten years. She later went back into nursing until she retired in 1996 and moved back to Georgia to take care of her Aunts Kissy and Louise to return the favor of raising her and her siblings as children. After the passing of her husband Eddie Chambers in 2000, Bettye moved back to California in 2003 to care for her oldest daughter Pauline until her passing in March, 2003. Bettye became a resident at Plymouth West in downtown Long beach and later became its first African American president in 2008. She was very proud of her accomplishment because that was the same year Obama was elected. Bettye was a very giving and caring person, she would often assist with the care of residents in her building when there were no family members around. She had a passion for music which she often demonstrated by playing classical music every Sunday morning waking up the entire household.
On Monday, February 18th, 2019, God called his angel home.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Genevieve Lightfoot Brazier, brother Robert Lightfoot Jr, daughter, Pauline Dunlap Williams and Grandson, Todd Dunlap.
She will be remembered fondly by her sons Porter Hall (Lydia) of Pomona, CA, Phillip H Hall (Fabiana) of Fontana, CA, daughters Joan Ruedelstein of Lakewood, CA, Maria Daniels of Moreno Valley, CA and Cicely Chambers (Vincent) of Ontario, CA.
Grandchildren: Tasha Smith (Rodney) of Chicago, IL, Romika Dotson of Rialto, CA, Nakeima Seay of Moreno Valley, CA, Sylvester Seay of Las Vegas, NV, Quentin Seay, Vicent Williams, Xavier Williams, Joshua Williams of Ontario, CA and Benicio Hall , Alexandre Hall of Fontana CA.
Nieces and Nephews: Dean Brazier, Michael Brazier, Maria Days(Kenneth) of Atlanta, GA and Deedra Penny of Texas.
Special Cousins/Nephews; Cheryl Briscoe, Cecilia Briscoe, Walter “Pee Wee” Hill, Paul Watkins Sr and Elvin Boone.
Many great and great great grandchildren and numerous family and friends.
