Betty Lou O’Rourke of Grand Terrace, California passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in her 86th year of life. She died at Loma Linda University Medical Center after a year-long struggle with respiratory infections eventually succumbing to myocarditis.
Betty was born in Riverside, CA May 11, 1931 to King Harold Ellis and Lillian Ethel Bryant. She attended Old Riverside Poly High where her main focus was her love of music. She later attended the University of California Riverside earning a Master’s Degree in music.
While playing in a jazz band she met her future husband of over 50 years Joseph Rory O’Rourke a naval veteran of WWII, financial advisor and businessman.
Her love of family, music and tennis guided her life. Her skill as a pianist brought much joy to all who had the privilege of hearing her play and sing. As a member of the Music Teachers Association she enjoyed a long life of teaching music and piano, singing in and accompanying church choirs along with her husband Rory who was usually her conductor.
She is survived by her daughter Moire Huss and husband Mike; her daughter Caitlin Lintern and husband Jim; her son Terrence O’Rourke and wife Jan; grandchildren James Lintern, Brittany Huss, Cory Lintern, Jeremy Lintern, wife Alexandria and their daughters Savanna and Charlotte, Betty's great grandchildren; her twin sister Virginia Juneman, husband Bob and their children Jeff and Karen.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the graveside on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Montecito Memorial Park. There will be a reception at the O’Rourke family home immediately following the service.
Proverbs 31:10-31 truly embodies Betty’s life as she was a virtuous woman and her price was far above rubies. She looketh well to the ways of her household and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed.
