Amparo was born on March 20, 1920 in Cebu City, Philippines, the 3rd of 6 children of Antonio and Soledad Alfonso. Early on in her life she always wanted to be a nurse and in 1941 she graduated from the Southern Island Hospital School of Nursing.
After the 2nd World War she enlisted in the Nurses Corps of the Philippine Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. This gave her the opportunity to serve at different military hospitals in the Philippines and to train and specialized in a wide variety of nursing care. While in the military she attended several military medical training in the United States which enabled her to do a lot travelling. Her longest and final military assignment was at the V. Luna General Hospital in Quezon City where she was the head of the Neuro Psychiatric Service. In 1971, after over 30 years of illustrious military nursing career, she retired from the military with the rank of Colonel in the Nurses Corps of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
After her retirement from the military she embarked into a new career in the private business sector until 1987, when she decided to move permanently to the United States. She was a long time resident of Loma Linda, California.
She is survived by her 3 daughters: Solie and husband Ed Velasco, Dr. Anne Marie and husband Dr Tim Trinidad, and Ruby Mae and husband Ricky Ortiz-Luis. She also has 3 grandchildren: Edward and Elaine Velasco and Alyanna Trinidad, and 6 great-grandchildren: Paige, Wyatt and Trevor Kobel, and Nivek, Hayden and Maddox Velasco.
