Born 01/30/1923
Passed 11/12/2013
Alice was born Alice Frances Burks on a very cold day in her home on 01/30/1923 in Crowell, Texas to Ann Mary and Silas William Burks. She was the youngest of nine children. Many of her siblings were already grown and had families of their own.
Alice grew up in Sherman, Texas and graduated from high school in 1940. As a senior in high school, she worked at the local jewelry store and after her graduation she was a secretary at Perrin Field in Sherman, Texas. Since she was very photogenic, some of her photos were labeled as “pin ups” during World War II.
Many changes occurred for Alice in 1945. She moved to Colton, California and lived with her sister, Florence Morgan. In that year, she started working at the Bank of America in Colton, and she also had her first child at San Bernardino Community Hospital.
In 1947, she and H. R. McCarroll were married and went on to have three children, all born at Saint Bernardine’s Hosiptal. She continued working at Bank of America as an Escrow Officer for 35 years. Having always wanting to stay in the Inland Empire to be near her children, she and Russ parted ways when he went to do business in Hawaii. She was widowed twice, her last being to R. P. Bidney who passed in 2011.
She was reunited with her eldest daughter in 1990 and was relieved and grateful as her love for her never floundered.
Alice was a beautiful lady inside and out. Through her pain, she helped other young unwed mothers at times. She was always professional and truly loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She is survived by her four children- Janice, David, Ann, and Nancy; her nine grandchild-Steven, April, Amy, Jeff, Julia, Damion, Benjamin, Kaitlin, and Samantha; her eleven great grandchildren-Dillon, Casey, Dallas, Denny, Jamie, Liam, Fiona, Penny, Andrew, Zacharias, and, Peter. Her Great granddaughter-Bailey predeceased her. Additionally, her beloved sister Florence, who is now the only surviving child of Ann Mary and Silas Burks also survives her.
Alice, as a mother, sister, and/or friend will be greatly missed. She will live in our hearts forever and her after glow will illuminate our cherished memories of her.
