Forever your memory will live with us

The first time I was introduced to Al was my first week at Ramona. He told me to remember not to leave my window open at the end of the day, and if I needed anything to just give him a radio call. Needless to say, he left me plenty of notes because I would always forget to lock up. When I started to coach the girls soccer team he was the one I would call when I forgot my keys or if any of the students left their bags in the locker room. He would always make a joke in that dry humor way he had but would always help me out without any complaints, regardless of the many times I would text him for help. He was one of the staff members I counted on the most, and I miss him a lot. Thank you Al for everything you did for the girls soccer team and for myself.

I had to look up the history of the word “custodian “.  It’s not used anymore, but I like the original:  someone who has custody of and cares for a place and its people.  This is who Al was to me.  He and I both cared for the Ramona theater and on many a late night, he watched to make sure I got to my car safely.  We rarely talked personally, but he was a quiet gift in my life.  

Al was a great friend and I enjoyed working alongside him for 8 years at Ramona. I’d be in a room cleaning late night and he’d pop up and say “You can run but you can’t hide” haha! We’d be driving around in the work truck moving tables, setting up for events, he’d drive up and say hey let’s go and I’d jump in the truck to help him. When you called in sick I’d fill your spot for the night and handle business! All the times we ate lunch together, stripped and waxed floors, good times. I enjoyed my job. Thanks for the memories. This pic is the way I remember you. Goodbye old friend.

On behalf of your neighbors, Ray and Mina Rodriguez, we would like to express our condolences to the family. Thank you, Al, for being a great neighbor and for all of your help in the times we needed it.  You will be missed.

Al, it’s been real hard to say goodbye to you. Thank you for being one of a kind. Thank you for all the conversations and all those years working along side each other at Ramona.

THANK YOU  for everything you did for my/our kids, something broke, you fixed it, needed put together," leave it i will do it". feed the fish while we were  on vacation if i couldnt, , "well if that one gets bigger, i may make fish tacos'.  that was our joke for years, FISH TACOS,,, after my first husband died you told me if i needed any help let you know and if you couldnt do it, an M/O guy probably could. but al, you could do or fix everything.  ive known you since i started at ramona in 1999.   i already miss finding you on campus to "harass" ya. :)  i  love you al, thank you for being such a great co -worker, friend  and supporter of my students .  fish tacos <3<3 <3 <3 <3  <3 luv, rox


My Dad was a great man that did everything for everyone and never asked for anything in return.  He was always there, always. He was simply,  easy going and loved family, getting together, cooking, having a few drinks with good conversation and laughs. His potato salad, chili, and rum cake was on point. He taught me how to ride a bike, taking my training wheels off without me knowing (lol). He stayed up to help me with my math homework, did science projects with me, we hiked blue mountain, and he enjoyed doing mud runs with me and my siblings and was always ready for the next adventure. There are so many fond memories of him it’s difficult to deal with but I will always cherish them. Small things from his demeanor, his facial expressions and things he said will play out in my mind. We texted almost daily and I will miss sharing funny memes with him and sharing our day to day photos. I was truly lucky to have him in my life and have him walk me down the isle at my wedding. He worked so hard and did so much. I know he was tired but would never say. I am truly heartbroken and sorry the time with him had to be cut short, I wish it wasn’t true. He will forever be missed. Rest In Peace

I worked with Al for over 20 years at Ramona HS.   He was loved and respected by staff & students.    Al was always ready to help out when  needed, he was a great part of the Ramona Family.    My condolences for his family, I know he'll be missed.   May he rest in peace.

I am so incredibly sorry for your loss.  Al was a wonderful person, who was always willing to help others.  Anytime you asked him to do anything, his response was the same.  He would just shrug, and in that very laid-back manner of his say, "Sure".  Nothing ever seemed to phase him, even the thought of undergoing a second major surgery.  He was always so strong and dependable, and I know that his family meant the world to him.  He talked about you all a lot, especially the little grandson that he helped look after in the mornings before work.  I am truly shocked that he is gone, and he will forever be missed here at Ramona!  Please let me know if you need anything. 

We worked with Al at Ramona HS and he was one of the most caring individuals that we have ever worked with in RUSD. He was always there when we needed him and really cared for our students. His kindness and worth ethic will never be matched and his passing has left a big void on the Ramona campus. He was someone that we could always count on. Also, he was extremely funny. He would have the best facial expressions and could speak volumes without even saying a word. He will be missed but never forgotten by the lives he has touched in RUSD. 

I never felt like “less than” in his presence, he had a way of making everyone feel equal and loved. He’d give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. I have so many fond memories of him and can’t believe I’ll never make another one. You will be missed Uncle Al. 

My father was an amazing and respectful person. He would always offer to  help those in need, but would almost never ask for help himself. Worked all day and night and kept himself busy, but never too busy for family. I love you dad, always and forever.
