November 30, 1935 – August 1, 2022
Wilson G. Kennedy, 86, passed away on August 1, 2022, in Colorado Springs, CO. He has resided in the Colorado Springs area for almost 50 years. Wilson was born on November 30, 1935, in Garfield County, OK, to the late Windsor and Rosa (Johnson) Kennedy. Named after his grandfather, Wilson Gregory Kennedy, who died the same year, he held a special place in the hearts of his grandmother, Millicent Kennedy (Hicks), and his Aunt Pennie Kennedy. After high school, Wilson met Betty (Clay) Kennedy, with whom he was married for 53 years. He joined the armed forces and served for over 20 years in the Army and Air Force, including completing a tour of duty in Vietnam and service in Japan.
Upon retirement from the armed forces, the couple moved to Colorado Springs. Wilson became involved in local businesses and the Veterans of Foreign War Post. He was an active volunteer, an excellent storyteller, comedian, amateur physician, bartender, babysitter, athlete, listener, friend and most of all a father to us all. If we had to sum up Wilson’s life there is one word that stands out ( A Legend) He loved to make people laugh, and he had an infectious smile that could warm up your heart and a room.
Preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings, Wilson is survived by hundreds of friends and a loving family: his children Gregory W. Kennedy (Jacqueline) and Kim A. Kennedy, grandsons Dalon (Eva), Dajuan, Dasean, Davon, Nicholas, Kristopher, sisters-in-law Gloria Jean Jacobs and Myrna Harris, and a host of other family and friends. Wilson's wonderful life will be celebrated on August 20, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery & Funeral Home, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO.
