Wilma Stephens, age 87, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014 in San Tan Valley, Arizona. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Wilma was born on January 28, 1927 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She met William “Steve” Stephens in the summer of 1943 and they married that fall. Together, Steve and Wilma moved during his military career, living in Washington DC, Stuttgart, and back to Colorado Springs. Wilma worked for a short time as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell and Sears, and spent most of her years as a housewife.
Wilma was an avid reader – to the point of often reading a book a day. She was a charter member of the Model A Club, the Old Colorado City Historical Society, and was very active with the Senior Center in Colorado Springs.
She is survived by three children: John William (wife, Sharon) Stephens of Colorado Springs; Judy (husband, Bob) Kilgore of Colorado Springs; and Jerri (husband, Chris) Nelson of San Tan, Arizona. She has six grandchildren: Brandi Ballinger, Elizabeth Douglas, Christian DeFrancesco, William Elijah, Kalin DeFrancesco, and River DeFrancesco; and one great-granddaughter, Mischa Douglas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve, in 1997; and a son, James Russell Stephens in 2007.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
