W. T. “Bill” Nance passed away in his home with his loving family surrounding him.
He was born in Nashville, Tennessee and was raised in Lancaster, Ohio. He attended Ohio State University focusing on Electrical Engineering. He participated in the Army Enlisted Reserved Corps and in April, 1943 was activated into duty and was shipped out with the 82nd Signal Battalion to the Asiatic Pacific Theatre where he received a Bronze Star and Victory Metal.
He resumed his Electrical Engineering studies at Ohio State University and graduated in June, 1947. He accepted an offer from Shell Oil Company and had a successful 37 year career retiring in December, 1984.
Upon retirement the family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. He enrolled in the El Paso County Master Gardener program in 1987 and was active through 1994 achieving a Senior Master Gardener level.
Bill was a committed Gleneagle Sertoma Club member and served as President in 1996 – 1997, also serving as Ambassador to a new Sertoma Club in Alaska established in 2009. He spearheaded the local bi-annual blood drive from 2004 to 2016, organizing 23 drives with 922 participants collecting 790 units of blood. He also was involved with the monthly Senior Meals Program.
Bill was engaged with the Donala Water and Sanitation District from 1986 through 2016, serving as Director, General Manager and President of the Board.
His influence and commitment will be missed by many in the community.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Nance; brother Leland Nance; children Beth (Dwayne) Hall, Paula Nance, Peter (Grace) Nance, William R. Nance and Catharine (Stephen) Simolari; grandchildren, Steven Contois, Ryan (Amber) Devine, Jonathan Hall, Lily Nance, Sheila Nance, Lucas Nance, Noah Nance and Kelley Simolari; and one great granddaughter Violet Devine.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016, 10 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 55 Jefferson St., Monument, CO 80132. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gleneagle Sertoma Club, P.O. Box 3171, Monument, CO 80132.
