William J Klein, Jr., MD passed away at his home on June 8, 2023. He was 87 years old. He is survived by his wife of more than 63 years, Sybil, children Hugh, Ross and Allison Klein and four grandchildren, Niels, Hanna, Marnik and Kelsie Klein. Bill and Sybil were married in August of 1959.
In 1962, Bill graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City where he did his internship and was a Research Fellow in Microbiology. He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and of the American Board of Nephrology. From 1963-1965 Bill was a physician to the Peace Corps in Ghana, West Africa. He did an Internal Medicine residency and Nephrology Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center where he was a Mead Johnson Scholar. After a distinguished career in Academia, Bill practiced Nephrology in Reading, Pennsylvania where he also served as Chief of the Medical Staff and was on the Board of Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
Bill was an avid skier who loved Vail so the Springs was a natural place to retire. He enjoyed many fine years of skiing there and outdoor activities in Colorados. Bill also loved to travel. He and Sybil experienced many wonderful trips together both in the United States and abroad.
The mountains are his resting place.
