Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force for over 22 years. Following his military career, he founded DeWitt Transportation and continued to work there up to his passing. He was a very intelligent person who embraced life with a strong work ethic. Bill was outgoing with an adventuresome spirit, he traveled the world and drove all over the United States but he always treasured coming back home to Colorado. Having a passion for horses, Bill loved to spend time with his quarter horses out on his ranch in Calhan. His mother often said that from the time he was a small child, ‘Bill never met a stranger’ and was a friend to everyone he met. He was also a loving husband and father.
He was survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Mary Francis ‘Fran’; son Greg (Kate); daughter Pam McWharter (Dave); grandchildren Dara, Katherine, Charlotte, Kristin, Dylan, Nick; great-granddaughter Grace; sisters Norma, Donna, Dorothy; brother Ivan; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa in 2003.
