Turner was born on March 12,1953 in Ramah, Colorado to Don and Virginia Smith. He was the 3rd of 3 children. Growing up in Ramah on his parent’s ranch, he spent his youth working and playing on their land with his older brother, Woody, and his sister Mary.
After graduating from Simla High School in 1971, he attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie studying Business. He left University and started a career in Sales and Transportation.
Turner married his high school sweetheart, Dawn in 1976 and they had a son, Donny Keith, He spent most of his adult life living and working in and around Colorado Springs. Turner worked for Yellow/Roadway freight for over 35 years. He was a City Driver and avid Teamster. He served as Recording Secretary for Teamster Local 17 for many years. He was also active in local government, serving as the Mayor of Ramah as well as Trustee for many years.
Turner met Pam and they were married in 1992. He then became stepdad to Michael and Fallon, and they blended their families into one. After all the children graduated, he and Pam moved back to his family home in Ramah, where they have lived for the last 20 years.
Turner loved his family and friends, playing golf and attending Denver Nugget games. He especially loved his 5 grandchildren and was happiest when he could be Poppa to them.
Turner leaves behind his wife Pam, children Donny and Fallon, his 5 grandchildren; Ava, Katelyn, Abigail, Genevieve and Arlis, his brother Woody Smith and numerous other friends and family.
A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, August 30th from 3 pm – 7 pm at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs, CO. A celebration of his life will be held at Swan-Law on Wednesday, August 31 at 1 pm. There will be a reception following the service from 2 pm – 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
