Theodore E. Wolfe, Jr. (Ted) went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, August 21, 2014. He was held in great love and esteem by his family, and will be sorely missed. Ted was born June 17, 1920, in Birmingham, Alabama, the first of 4 children. When he was very young, the family moved to Memphis, Tennessee where he grew up. When WW II broke out, he joined the U. S. Navy. He was a decorated veteran serving in not only WW II, but the Korean conflict, and as an advisor in Vietnam. He served for 21 years in the Navy obtaining the rank of Commander, then further served his country working for the Department of Defense in numerous capacities.
As important and defining as his military service was, his family was more important to him than anything. Preceding him in death was his wife Emma, his youngest son George, his daughter Nancy, and his brother George. Mr. Wolfe is survived by his two sisters, Eloise Evans, and June Little, his daughter Karen (Elden) Daniel residing in the San Luis Valley, his sons Theodore E. Wolfe III (Ann) residing in Florida, David (Donna) and Richard (Karin), both couples residing in Alaska. Mr. Wolfe resided with Karen and Elden Daniel since 2007, and enjoyed the Valley very much. Also surviving him are 18 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Wolfe loved to hunt, fish and camp in his younger years. He was an Eagle Scout and was a Boy Scout leader when his sons were in scouting. He was a member of the NRA and encouraged his children to enjoy firearms and be familiar with them when they were young. He loved to watch football, and baseball, and was an avid reader. He also greatly influenced his children to become readers, and that has remained true through 3 generations.
The funeral service will be held at the Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, on August 27 at 1 PM. Burial will take place with full military honors at Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice Del Valle 514 Main Street Alamosa, CO 81101.
