Smokey was born in San Diego, California, on November 30, 1951, to James Nelson Wasson and Edna Juanita Wasson.
He graduated from Santana High School in San Diego, California, and attended the University of Central Missouri. Smokey married Donna on December 6, 2003, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Smokey retired from Synthes (A medical manufacturer) in October 2020. He also was a United States Army Veteran and served in Vietnam.
Smokey is preceded in death by his stepfather Eugene Brown; mother, Juanita Brown and his brother James “Butch” Wasson.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Wasson; his son, Matt Wasson; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Lance Gentry will officiate the funeral service on December 30, 2023, at Cross and Crown Church at 1pm. Immediately following the service there will be a reception with refreshments upstairs in the great hall. His final resting place will be Pikes Peak National Cemetery.
