Russell (Russ) Lee Thompson, loving husband and father, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 27th, 2022, at the age of 85. He was born September 3, 1936, to LeVoy (Lee) and Jessie Thompson. On July 13, 1972, Russ married Leatrice (Lea) Young. They remained together for almost 50 years.
Russ joined the United States Air Force and achieved the rank of Master Sargent before retiring from the service after 22 years on April 1, 1975. Following his military career, he started his own company, Peak View Refrigeration and remained in business another 23 years before finally retiring in 1998.
Russ earned the respect and gratitude of his clients and fellow serviceman and women. Family and friends will always remember his warm smile and kind heart.
Russ loved being around people. His eyes would light up whenever he had visitors, telling everyone to “Keep it safe,” when it was time to leave. His passion for life was contagious and he loved spending time in his workshop fixing things or building gift for family and friends. His greatest loves were the outdoors, his dogs and of course his family.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents, LeVoy “Lee” and Jessie, children Donnie, Danny, and Debbie, stepchildren Evan and Cindy, and first wife Montez. He is survived by his wife, Lea, sister Margaret, children Doug and Denise, 8 grandchildren, and 4 step grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life ceremony on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 9 am led by Blaine Derck, followed by an burial service at 10 am, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
