Ronald R. Rasmussen, age 68, of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away on November 19, 2024, after a year-long fight with cancer. He was born April 26, 1956, in Augsburg, West Germany to his Army father, Ronald R. Rasmussen Sr. and mother, Adis Bates Rasmussen. As an Army brat, Ron lived in a number of places but fell in love with Colorado Springs when his father was stationed at Fort Carson.
He graduated from Colorado State University in 1980 and went to work in Denver. Having found Colorado to feel like home, Ron also found a home in his wife, Barbara Farris. Their eyes locked the day he walked into the office, his long hair flowing and his yellow suit radiating. They married in 1981 and began a bit of a nomadic life as Ron used his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Construction Management to build hospitals around the world. He worked on the University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor, University of Virginia hospital in Charlottesville and then took the family to spend six years in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia building a new hospital there. He also worked in St. Louis, Missouri, Denver, CO and finished his career at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, California.
Ron loved the outdoors, hiking (even encouraging others up inclines with supportive songs), fly tying/fishing, horseback riding and scuba diving.
Ron’s boisterous and contagious laugh was often heard at any dinner table with wine or, as he called it, bubbly.
Ron is survived by his wife, Barbara Rasmussen, son, Matthew A. Rasmussen (Asya Simons), son, John A. Rasmussen and daughter, Lydia A.C. Rasmussen, his sisters Betty Eng and Mary Flores and his beloved Shark vacuum. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara A. Gulden.
