After high school, he received degrees in industrial psychology and accounting before entering the Air Force, attaining the rank of MSgt.. He served his country for 21 years in Viet Nam, the Philippines, Iceland, numerous bases in the United States, including Air Force Space Command in Colorado Springs. His last assignment was with the 1003rd MCCS in Colorado Springs, of which he was in charge for 3 years.
While in the Philippines, he worked in the slums with the medical services, obtaining medical and dental assistance for the needy. In Iceland he was accounting and finance officer, third in command.
After his military service, he and his business partner, Jonathan Minthorn, owned and operated the R and J Timeworks in downtown Colorado Springs for 16 years.
His hobbies included gardening, vegetables and flowers, woodworking and watching movies.
Rob was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church for over 18 years. He was a third degree knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 9993.
In the parish, he was active in several ministries, including a Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and sacristan at Masses. He spent countless hours as director of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), which was the ministry closest to his heart. He was responsible for the first and only year round RCIA process in the diocese of Colorado Springs. He initiated other programs in the parish as he saw a need.
He lived in Colorado Springs since 1987. Rob was proceeded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rosalee Ouellette.
He is survived by a son, Derek Ouellette of Virginia and his business partner, Jonathan Minthorn.
With broken hearts, the parish family of St Patrick Parish, tearfully says "Yes, Lord" let his hands rest.
Viewing will be at St. Patrick Catholic Church from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2010. The Rosary will be Wednesday, September 29, 2010, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick, 6455 Brook Park Dr, Colorado Springs.
