He was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, to Lon and Josephine (McDonough) Adams, March 23, 1927.
Bob graduated from Cathedral High School in 1944 and upon graduation enlisted into the U.S. Navy following his brothers Phil and Paul into military service. He served in World War II aboard the USS Langley in the South Pacific and was very proud of his service to the United States.
Returning after the war he attended Wichita State University where he met the love of his life Marilyn M. Hockett. Bob and Marilyn married April 22, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas.
Bob’s career began as a manager for the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company before going into radio sales in early 1956. He was named Sales Manager for KFH Radio and then became General Manager at KFH. He was also partial owner of KBRA Radio in Wichita, Kansas.
Bob and Marilyn moved to Colorado Springs in 1975 after purchasing KRYT radio station. After selling KRYT he worked with KKTV before fulfilling his dream of opening Adams Advertising Agency.
Bob and Marilyn had a love for travel. Europe was a favorite destination. England and Ireland were favorites due to many extended family members that always welcomed them back warmly. One of Bob’s favorite places was Berlin, Germany, and they were there to witness the fall of the Berlin Wall. He was happy to be part of such a historic event.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Pam (Mike), Rebecca, Vicki (Steve), Judy (John) and Amy (Todd).
His grandchildren, Jason (Vanessa), Heather (Greg), Jennifer (Will), Abby (Dave), Jillian (Sarah), Logan, Ryan (Natalie), Amanda, Jen, Trevor (Cordelia), Taylor (Dylan), Tess (Aaron), and Tara.
Great-grandchildren Ty, Cael, Alec, Jack, Hannah, Will, Katie, Max, Conor, Anna, Zaiden, Braxton and Tamara. He also leaves behind his brother Phil (Louise), many nieces and nephews and his dear friend Marguerite.
Bob had a special place in his heart for all animals and will be greatly missed by his kitties Flossie and Noel and Theresa the raccoon who showed up nightly for a handout.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife Marilyn, son Kelly, his parents, his brothers Joe and Paul, grandson Christopher Bearden and sons-in-law Stephen Warren and Don Bauermeister.
He will be remembered for his Faith, love of family, friends and neighbors, as well as his generosity, kindness and compassion to those in need. He was a man of hard work and loved making people happy. His skill of creating a beautiful yard full of flowers was beyond compare. Bob will be incredibly missed by all and we will raise our glasses to him at every opportunity. Our only solace is knowing he is with the Lord and our Mother whom he loved so deeply.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 1, from 4-8 pm at Swan Law Funeral Home, 501 North Cascade Avenue in Colorado Springs. Rosary will be prayed at 6 pm.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 2, at 10 am at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 9 El Pomar Road, Colorado Springs. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway, Colorado Springs. Please join us afterwards for a luncheon at the Julie Penrose Hall located at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
Donations in memory of Bob may be made to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, 610 Abbot Lane, Colorado Springs, or Catholic Charities Marian House, 14 West Bijou, Colorado Springs.
