Richard “Rick” William Gray, 65, passed away January 28th, 2019 peacefully in his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado surrounded by family. He was born August 12th, 1953 in Fort Knox, Kentucky to Duncan and Rita Gray, nee Gessner.
Rick graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High in 1972. He joined the United States Army in 1974 and proudly served for 2 years. It was during his time in the Army that he met his wife Lori, left the army, moved to Iowa where they had one child, Candace. Although their marriage didn’t last their friendship did.
Rick moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1985 and lived there until his death. He loved the mountains, the fresh air, the wildlife and the fishing. To him, every other state paled in comparison to what Colorado had to offer! He adored his granddaughter Audrey and she adored her Opa right back. His two dogs really were his best friends and he had a voracious appetite for reading. Rick was gentle yet strong, peaceful yet passionate, understanding yet opinionated. He loved beyond words. One of the greatest feelings in the world is to have been loved by Rick, those that were embraced into his life knew they were to be cherished forever. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughter Candace Gray; his granddaughter Audrey Grace Gray; mother Rita Gray; sister Patricia Johnson; brothers Duncan (Maria) Gray, Douglas (Lisa) Gray and Brian (Sheila) Gray; nieces Karin (RC) Velez, Stephanie (TJ) Huseby, Crystal Gray, Michelle Gray, and Sara Gray; nephews Michael (Colleen) Johnson, Collin Gray, Andrew Gray, Carter Gray, and Duncan Gray; grand-nieces Megan, Brianna, Tessa and Jayma; grand-nephews Devon, Traven, Ryan, Cody, Anthony, Jordan and Corey; as well as many other extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by father Duncan Gray, brother Stephen Gray, and grandniece Carissa.
There will be a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the American Cancer Association or Wounded Warriors Family Support.
