Ray went home to be with his beloved Jesus Christ on July 22, 2023. He passed peacefully at home. Ray is survived by his wife of 65 years. Sharon, his children: Gail LaForest of Washington, Cathleen Gibson of Colorado, David LaForest of Alaska, Nancy Dement of Colorado and their spouses. He has two grandchildren: Justin Gibson and Sherri Gibson and one great granddaughter Penelope Gibson.
Ray was born on June 11,1935 at home in Ferndale, Michigan to Paul and Lillian LaForest. He was the youngest of four children, all who have passed away before him. He was raised in Berkeley, Michigan and then lived in Royal Oak, Michigan with his wife until moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado in March of 1973.
Ray was known as a kind generous and loving man who was loved by all who knew him. Upon retirement he and his wife Sharon spent many fun filled years traveling around the U.S in their RV, along with their dog, Misty and cat, Pookie. While traveling he wrote a book; Old Soldiers Never Die (They Just Rot Away). A humorous story of seniors being drafted back into the Army.
Ray was in the Army in the 1960s, including the Army National Guard as a staff sergeant and served at several military bases.
There will be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday, July 29 1-3pm at ViewPointe Living Community.
