Ralph E. Barbari died on January 16, 2015 at 92 years of age. He was born in Pictou, Colorado on December 19, 1922 to the union of Ernesto Barbari and Angelina (Amidei) Barbari. He attended elementary school and high school in Walsenburg, Colorado.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII with stations in India, Egypt, and Italy. In December 1943 he was given a commendation letter for selected participation in a special mission at the Mena Conference in Cairo, Egypt.
While in Italy he met and married his wife, Annunziata “Nancy” Colucci. They were married on February 3, 1946 in Naples, Italy.
He spent most of his working career as an Engineer Equipment Technician Instructor in the Civil Service at Fort Carson, Colorado, retiring after 34 years of service. He enjoyed working on anything mechanical, and would be of assistance to anyone who needed his mechanical/technical skills. He was also involved in many volunteer activities in his Church and his children’s schools/activities.
He was a very devoted husband and loving father who will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and three brothers. Surviving him are a sister Marie Munoz of Broomfield, Colorado and a brother, Art Barbari of Pueblo, Colorado and many nieces and nephews.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 68 years; daughter Angela (Richard) Phillips of Colorado Springs, son Edward (Sharon) Barbari of Redwood City, California, son Dr. Timothy Barbari of Boston, Massachusetts; three grandsons: Ryan (Anne) Phillips of Englewood, Colorado, Brendan Barbari and Aidan Barbari of Redwood City, California; and two great grandchildren, Katherine Phillips and Matthew Phillips of Englewood, Colorado.
Celebration of Life Mass will be on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 10:30 am at St. Francis Catholic Church (2650 Parish View, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80919) with reception following at the church. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St Francis Catholic Church pantry (2650 Parish View, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80919) or to Gentiva Hospice (5526 N. Academy Blvd. Colorado Springs, Colorado 80918).
