

The Rev. Dr. Ralph D. Anderson of Colorado Springs, died December 14, 2024. Ralph was born March 6, 1938 in Lindsborg, KS to Carl B. and Mildred V. (Holmstrom) Anderson. He was the second of four boys and was preceded in death by his parents and beloved brothers James Michael Anderson of Manitou Springs, CO and Judge Carl B Anderson of Lindsborg, KS.
While completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Bethany College, Lindsborg, KS, he felt called to become a Lutheran pastor, graduating in 1964 from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago/Rock Island (Illinois) Campus. It was later he earned a Doctor of Ministry from Eden Theological Seminary, St. Louis, MO.
He served parishes in Shawnee Mission KS; San Francisco, CA; San Mateo, CA; Columbia, MO; and Rochester, NY.
In 1966 he married Janet (Jan) Martens, R.N., M.S.N., N.P. They have two daughters, Kris (Sam) Heckman; Megan (William) Rusconi, and four grandchildren, Katie and Will Rusconi, James and Robert Hunt. He is also survived by his brother Dr. Richard (Marylen) Anderson, sister-in-law Rebecca Anderson, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Dennis and Ruth Mall, Harold A. and Catherine Martens, nieces, nephews and their children.
Ralph’s life was enriched by the many people he met throughout the years. He is remembered for his kindness, integrity, authentic faith, inclusivity, storytelling, his love of music, science, and sports, especially football and handball.
His memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church, 1515 North Cascade, Colorado Springs on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church’s memorial or outreach fund or to a charity of choice.
