Phil was born on August 25, 1941 to Philip F. Bauer and Mary L. (LaPean) Bauer in Arkansaw, WI. His parents always called him “Son”, which is a name that stuck with him throughout his family. The Bauer’s moved to Colorado Springs, CO, and Phil was part of the last graduating class of Colorado Springs High School. After high school, he started work for Pacific Air Lines, but was asked by “his friends and neighbors” to come back to Colorado Springs to join the United States Army because of a little conflict in Southeast Asia known as the Vietnam War.
It was during his military training that he met and fell in love with Helen M. McArdle. After Phil returned from his camping trip they married in Philadelphia. After the wedding they took their honeymoon driving across the country meeting more of Phil’s relatives along the way.
Phil spent over 20 years working for the airlines, Pacific Air Lines merged with 2 other carriers to form AirWest, then they were bought by Howard Hughes forming Hughes Air West, after he died they were bought out by Republic Airlines from which he retired from as a Senior Passenger Service Agent.
Although that was just the beginning, during Phil’s time working for the airlines he earned his Associates degree for Los Angeles Valley College, his B.S. in business from Cal State L.A., and his J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law. Phil spent over 20 years working as an attorney. He started that career in general practice, then joined a worker’s compensation law firm until his move back to Colorado Springs where he opened his practice in family law, and wills, trusts, and probate.
During a move to Colorado Springs, Helen died unexpectedly. While Phil was establishing himself in Colorado Springs as an attorney, he started working for Wal-Mart, and then since that wasn’t enough for the tenacious workaholic, he worked part-time for 7-11. He eventually retired from his practice, but continued to work for Wal-Mart, which he did for another 20 + years. During this time, he met Koryta Hamner, fell in love, and got remarried.
Phil enjoyed many things like model trains, scuba diving, traveling, riding his motorcycle, and shooting. He was also one of the most smart-allecky men you would ever encounter. A trait that he has passed down through at least 2 generations.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Philip F. Bauer and Mary (LaPean) Bauer, his wife, Helen (McArdle) Bauer, and his grandson, Adam Andrew Perry. He leaves behind his wife, Koryta (Hamner) Bauer, his daughter Helen “Katie” (Frank) Nicholson, his grandchildren, Meghan, Kimberly and Sky Nicholson, along with his sister Marietta (Bauer) Riggs. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
