Peter "Pete" J. Beim

Peter grew up in Northern Virginia, graduating from J.E.B. Stuart High School in 1983. He commissioned from George Mason University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Resource Management as a 2LT in the Signal Corps.

His Army career began in Mannheim, Germany in 1987 where he deployed with the 44th Signal Battalion to Southwest Asia as a Signal Officer and Company Commander. He moved on to the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York where he married his wife Kay. Thereafter he deployed to Somalia once as the Communications Officer for 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment and again as the Communications Officer for the 10th Aviation Brigade. In the brief period between those two deployments, Peter and Kay had their first daughter Brittany in 1993. He deployed a third time from Fort Drum to Haiti as the Commander of Alpha Company, 10th Signal Battalion. After his time in New York, Peter moved to Chicago for two years to get a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from Northwestern University.

Peter moved to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 1997 to attend the Command and General Staff College and subsequently work as the Operations and Plans Officer for the school. While in Kansas, Peter and Kay had their second daughter Kira in 1999. Afterwards Peter traveled to Stuttgart, Germany where he worked for the European Theater Network Defense Chief as a Command and Control Systems Engineer and for the U.S. European Command as the Executive Officer to the Chief of Staff. In 2005 Peter moved back to the National Capital Region working for the Army Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence (G-2) as the Strategic Communications and Networks Division Chief, deploying to Iraq in 2008.

Upon his return to Northern Virginia he worked as the Strategy, Plans, and Policy Division Chief for the Joint Staff Operations Office. From there he moved on to the Headquarters, Department of the Army Office for Operations, Plans, and Training (HQDA G-3/5/7) where he served first as the Commander of the Command and Control Support Agency, and afterwards as the organization’s Chief Information Officer. His Army career culminated as the Director of Current Operations for Army Cyber Command. Peter retired from the Army in 2015 after 28 years of dedicated service to his country.

Even after retiring, Peter continued to serve the United States for another six years as a Department of the Army Civilian working for Army Cyber Command in Washington, D.C. and for the U.S. Northern Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado as the Joint Force Headquarters-Cyber Liaison Officer. He is survived by his loving wife Kay, his parents Judy and Al, his brother Alex, his two daughters Brittany and Kira, his son James and son-in-law Taylor, and his three grandchildren Temperance, Kylar, and Owen.
