Paul T. Davidson, age 84, of Colorado Springs, died on July 17, 2021, succumbing from the effects of dementia. He was born in Wendell, Idaho, on August 26, 1936 to Carl M. and Vira (Klink) Davidson. In 1960, he married Janet Marie Madsen with whom he had a long and happy marriage.
He graduated from Centennial High School in Pueblo, Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, NE and the University of Chicago Medical School. After his internship year at the University of Iowa Hospitals, he served in the United States Public Health Service, Indian Bureau in Alaska. Returning to Iowa, he completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases. He joined the staff of National Jewish Hospital in Denver in 1969 becoming Chief of the Tuberculosis and Chest Section in 1972. In 1983, he became Director of Tuberculosis Control for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services where he remained until retirement at the end of 2001. He wrote a number of articles for medical journals and chapters for textbooks and frequently presented sessions for medical meetings.
He was a strong advocate for public health programs.
Paul was much loved by his family with whom he enjoyed camping, trout fishing, camping, and walks in the woods. He loved music, played the cello, sang in church choirs all his life and enjoyed opera. He was an active participant in the life of the church wherever he lived, was interested in missions, going on a short term mission trip to Guatemala in 2003. He was humble and genuinely cared about his patients and everyone with whom he worked. He was highly regarded by his colleagues and coworkers who remarked on his kindness and were grateful for his mentoring.
He is survived by his wife, Janet, son, Martin (Karen) Davidson and daughter, Laura Davidson, granddaughter, Hailey Davidson, sister Ellen Barrett and a number of nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin and sister, Clara.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 26, 10:00 a.m. at East United Methodist Church, 1505 E. Monument. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock Expressway. There will be a viewing on Sunday, July 25, at Swan-Law Mortuary, 501 N. Cascade, from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East United Methodist Church, 1505 E.
