

Mary Lou Jardine, of Colorado Springs CO, passed away peacefully with a Hospice Chaplain by her side on July 3, 2023, she was 91 years old. Mary Lou was a native Coloradan born in Pueblo on November 7, 1931. She was raised in Fowler, Rocky Ford, Colorado Springs, and for a brief time in her teen years in California. She was preceded in death by her parents Clara Roughton, Van Roughton, brother Minor Roughton, her husband of 68 years Douglas Jardine and her son Timothy Jardine. She is survived by her niece Carol Long of California, with whom she had a special bond, her son Gregory Jardine (Jenny) of Colorado Springs, her daughter Cherie Jardine O’Connor (Whitney) of Hawaii, her daughter-in-law Diane Jardine of Colorado Springs and grandson Van Jardine of Colorado Springs.
Mary Lou graduated from Colorado Springs High School (Palmer) in 1949. And briefly attended University of Denver with a scholarship for Drama. She and Douglas married in 1950 and became “dorm parents” at University of Colorado – Boulder until 1952 when Douglas graduated. Mary Lou was a dedicated wife and mother to her three children and was very supportive with all their sports activities. As her youngest became a teenager Mary Lou earned her real estate license and practiced in Colorado Springs for 4 years. Throughout her life she liked to write fiction and short stories, even won awards for her short stories, and she loved to garden.
Mary Lou lived a long and blessed life and will be missed. At her request there will be a family gathering later when we lay her to rest in Woodland Park at Mountain Wilderness Memorial Park with Douglas and Timothy.
If so inclined, her family requests donations in Mary Lou’s memory be made to either St Jude’s, Colorado Springs Rescue Mission, or Pikes Peak Humane Society.
