A lover of people and pets, she shared her vivacious personality and lovely singing voice to all who knew her. Cancer may have claimed her earthly body on June 26, 2016, but her spirit lives on. Marilyn Louise Malson was born on May 10 1949, in Oklahoma City, the daughter William R. and Trude M. Malson. The family moved to Denver in the 1950's where she graduated from Mapleton High School. She traveled down many of life's paths finding marriage, adventure, and challenges on the way. She was a free spirit whose greatest joy was making people happy.
She spent most of her adult life living and working in the Colorado Springs area before settling down in Simla, Colorado. Marilyn married the love of her life Don Lemley in 2008 creating a family that included their children and grandchildren. She loved the town and people of Simla, and worked at the Country Corner Restaurant, volunteered at the thrift shop, and sang in the church choir. She was a voracious reader and doted on her pets and grandchildren. She was outspoken, generous, and always stylish in thrift store chic.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Don of Simla, daughters Stephanie Bernstein of Colorado Springs and Melissa Rakestraw of Denver, their families, and Marilyn's vast array of siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews scattered throughout the United States.
Services will be held July 9, 2016 at 2pm at First Baptist Church, 400 Sioux Ave, Simla CO 80835 Gravesite service to follow.
