Marie Wissler, a long-time resident of Monument, passed away peacefully Feb. 3rd in Allen, Texas at the age of 95. She was born February 16, 1919, in Adair County, Missouri to James and Nancy (Norton) Cooper. She attended local schools, and graduated from Bible Grove High School in 1937.
Upon graduation, Marie worked in the glove factory in Kirksville, Missouri, and during World War II she served her country as a worker at the ordinance plant by transporting explosives. After the war, she came to Colorado and worked at Shepard Citation.
On January 20th, 1952, she and Roy C. Wissler were united in marriage at the Little Log Church, in Palmer Lake, Colorado. Marie was Roy's partner and helper on the family ranch northeast of Monument throughout their life together while raising three daughters.. Upon Roy's death in 1994, she remained on the ranch with her faithful dog Dolly until 2010.Marie was a loving wife and mother. She was an active member of the Little Log Church, and the Women's Missionary where she served her church, and community, in a variety of ways.
Marie is survived by her children Mary (Joe) Walker of Texas, Jane (Terry) Rust of New Mexico, and Brenda (Seth) Minster of Wisconsin; grandchildren Sarah (Jason) Pettyjohn, David (Tara) Rust, Bethany (Josh) Spurgeon, Alexander (Stephanie) Minster, Adam (Nicole) Minster and Kelly (Jon) Walker; great-grandchildren Wyatt and Morgan Pettyjohn, and Sopia Rust. She is also survived by three sisters, Dorothy Shreve of Indiana, Betty Platz of Iowa and Katharine Haley of California. In addition to those listed, she is survived by many nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 10th from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at Swan Law Funeral Home N. Cascade, Colorado Springs. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 11th at 1:00 p.m. at the Spring Valley Cemetery Chapel at 13944 Spring Valley Road, Larkspur, Colorado. Burial to follow at the Spring Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be made to Spring Valley Cemetery.
