Lynn Dowlin Phillips, “Lynn”, age 83, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away October 22, 2022. She was born in Canton, Ohio, on December 12, 1938, as the daughter of renowned surgeon Winfred Mason Dowlin, M.D. and Calista Lane Bristol.
She graduated from Abbot Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, class of 1956 and received a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, class of 1960. She went on to earn two master’s degrees respectively in Spanish and Communications from Kent State University, Stark County, during the 1970’s.
She was happily married to Norman Phillips, her husband of 34 years. Mr. Phillips has retired from a career as an opera singer, most recently at the Vienna State Opera, and has retired as a Professor of Voice at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
Lynn was a member of the Society of Mayflower Decedents as the direct descendent of John Alden and Priscilla Mullins.
Lynn was an accomplished athlete and won many singles and doubles tennis tournaments. She continued playing tennis, swimming, and running until late in life at her residential community, Kissing Camels, and at The Garden of the Gods Club and Resort.
In addition to her husband, Norman Phillips, she is survived by three children, Bristol Voss-Duggan, Peter Voss, and Kelsey Voss, and seven grandchildren Calista Duggan, Conor Duggan, Mona Duggan, Cooper Voss, Marie Voss, Rami Al-Shorafa, and Kayson Al-Shorafa.
A Visitation will be held at 10:30AM with a Funeral Service to follow at 11:00AM, Friday, November 4, 2022 at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00PM, Friday, November 4, 2022 at Crystal Valley Cemetery, 502 Plainview Place, Manitou Springs, Colorado 80829.
