Linda Marie Case (nee Malmrose) was born on October 5, 1960, and passed away after a valiant fight against ovarian cancer on September 3, 2024. Linda grew up on John Circle in Norwood, NJ, a close-knit neighborhood with numerous kids who are still good friends. She married Francis (Frank) Case on July 28, 1984, and they recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this summer in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Linda is survived by her husband and her loving siblings Paul (Susan), Joan, and Roy, and her in-laws, Mary Case (Will Lowe), John Case (Susan), Polly Glowatz (Mike), and Susanne Sulby (Matthew). She was a loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and also a great-aunt.
Linda attended Norwood Public School and Northern Valley Regional High School in Old Tappan, where she excelled both as a student and as a runner. She then went to Penn State, where she continued running and met her husband, Frank, an outstanding defensive end for the Nittany Lions. She was a loyal Penn State fan until the end, when she watched Penn State beat West Virginia two days before her passing. Linda reached her goal of becoming a doctor by graduating from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1987.
As Linda began her career, she and Frank moved to Colorado Springs, where she opened her own practice in Monument. After selling her practice, Linda worked at local hospitals and ended her career as a doctor at the Air Force Academy. Linda was a true healer. She was devoted to her patients and would even answer their questions by phone, text, and email during off hours. Linda particularly enjoyed working with the Air Force Cadets. She was a season ticket holder for their football games.
Linda continued her athletics throughout her life. She loved running, hiking, surfing, swimming, biking, and participating in yoga. Linda ran the Pikes Peak Marathon & Ascent several times and became a volunteer at the event after sustaining an ankle injury. She had friends across the country and around the world, especially in San Diego and Costa Rica, both places where she liked to surf. She was fluent in Spanish and French. Whatever city Linda traveled to, she knew someone to visit. She loved her friends at the Root Center for Yoga & Sacred Studies and attending music festivals. Linda was always willing to help friends and strangers alike and was a role model for many people.
She was an avid Yankee fan and loved watching Aaron Judge hit long home runs. Linda and her brother Paul constantly traded texts about the Bronx Bombers and rooted against the Twins (her brother Roy’s Team) and the Astros (her sister Joan’s Team). She visited several ballparks and attended spring training with her siblings to see her beloved Yankees.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Florence and Viljo Malmrose, her in-laws, Agnes and John D Case, her brother-in-law, Danny DeMonbrun and her sisters-in-law, Cynthia Malmrose, Kathy Baker (Bruce) and Cecilia Case. Linda’s Father instilled in her his Finnish heritage. He called her the Flying Finn and encouraged her to be a doctor. She and her mother shared a love of the beach and frequent visits to Sea Isle and Ocean City on the Jersey Shore. Linda and Frank, her Malmrose siblings, and her nieces and nephews enjoyed at least six family reunion trips there over the years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903, on October 4, 2024, at 10 AM with a reception to follow.
