LaVerne was born June 4, 1921 in Early, Iowa to Sarah (Baker) and Christopher Garber. As a child, she moved with her family to Danby, Missouri where she lived until she met her beloved husband, Kenneth Carbo, in St. Louis. They were married on May 22, 1954 in Danby, Missouri and were married for 57 years until his death in August, 2011.
While in Missouri, LaVerne worked at the Pittsburg Plate Glass Company. She also played third base on the semi-pro women’s softball league. Living in a close family, she supported her parents and helped out with her siblings’ children becoming a favorite aunt and second mother to all.
Once married, she became an Air Force military wife living in Illinois, Norway, Virginia, and Colorado Springs. She retired as a school bus driver for District 11 schools in Colorado Springs.
LaVerne will be greatly missed by sisters-in-law Patricia Bush and Joan Esposito, children Pamela (Kyle) Gateley, Kristie (Wayne) Loftis, and Timothy (Linda) Carbo, and by her greatest loves, grandchildren Brooke Greene, Christopher Hyskell, Calley Wenzel, Jordan and Chelsea Gateley, Steven and Todd Loftis and 11 great-grandchildren, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was known for the great love she had for her family, and her kindness, compassion, and thoughtfulness was ever present. She was continuously upbeat, witty, and full of life and so loved by all who had the great fortune to have known her.
A memorial service will be held at Memorial Gardens, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 2:00 with visitation held prior to the service.
