Lawrence “Larry” Freeman Davis was born in Ainsworth, NE to Freeman and Gladys on September 9, 1924. This close knit and conservative ranching community provided a foundation that would prove to be the beginning of a solid and productive life. Larry passed peacefully at his home in Colorado Springs January 26, 2023.
He is survived by his loving wife Teena of over 46 years, whom he described to anyone who would listen as the love of his life. Survived by sisters Audrey & Lois; Children: Pam (Terry), Stephen, Tina, Jimmie (Lori) & Carla (Richard). Grandchildren: Adam, Andrea, Angela, Ashley, Bryan, Corey, Holly, Jaimee, Jana, Lance, Leah, Lucas, Luke, Raychel and Tally. Great Grandchildren: Alexa, Bella, Cole, Ella, Nathaniel, Olivia, Ruby, Alexandra, Caleb, Danielle, Elaine, Josey, Riley, Shey, Tristan, Terra, Trey, & Tate. Larry passed on to all these a legacy of hard work, and devotion to family and country. Serving in WWII Pacific Theater in the Marine Corp 3rd Division as a gunner he remained always proud to have served his country including surviving Iwo Jima. Following WWII he became a Golden Gloves boxer in NY City, training in a Harlem gym, and on the card to fight at Madison Square Garden before settling into his long-term career of over-the-road trucking.
After retiring he enjoyed a leisure life of bowling, carpentry work and travel with Teena. Together they saw much of this country he loved by car and in going to gatherings of his beloved 3rd Marine Division annual reunions where stories and friendship were shared in abundance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Freeman and Gladys Davis, brothers Donald & Lyle, son Gary, and daughters Janice & Juanita. May he rest in peace and know that he will be missed until we gather once again.
